Arizona driving puts specific demands on vision. Intense low angle sun, highly reflective road surfaces and light coloured desert ground all produce glare of a kind that a plain tint barely touches.
Polarisation is the difference. A tinted lens reduces overall brightness. A polarised lens specifically eliminates the horizontally reflected light bouncing off the road and off other vehicles, which is the light that actually makes you squint.
Night driving is the other common complaint, and it is usually caused by something fixable: early cataract, an outdated prescription, or the absence of anti reflective coating, which is responsible for a surprising amount of headlight scatter.
