Construction and Trades

Prescription safety glasses solve the problem that makes workers remove protective eyewear: not being able to see properly through it. Certified impact resistance and your correction in one pair.

Safety glasses over my prescription fog up so I end up taking them off.
An eye injury near miss, or an employer requiring certified protective eyewear.

Workplace eye injuries are common and overwhelmingly preventable, and the most common failure mode is not an absence of protective eyewear but protective eyewear that gets taken off. Goggles worn over glasses fog, slip and distort, so they come off exactly when they are needed.

Prescription safety eyewear removes that trade off entirely. Certified impact resistant lenses and frames, side protection, and your correction built in.

Arizona adds two more factors: UV exposure for outdoor trades, which is a genuine long term risk, and airborne dust, which irritates the ocular surface directly and dries the tear film.

What matters most for this group

Fogging and slipping
The reason protective eyewear gets removed. Prescription safety glasses fit properly and stay on.
UV exposure outdoors
Cumulative UV exposure is associated with cataract, macular degeneration and surface growths. Tinted safety eyewear with full UV protection is available.
Dust and dry eye
Constant airborne particulate irritates the surface and accelerates tear evaporation. Wraparound coverage and dry eye evaluation both help.

Where to start

Construction and Trades: common questions

Do my normal glasses count as safety glasses?

No. They do not meet workplace impact standards and offer no side protection.

Something is in my eye. What do I do?

Loose specks can be flushed with clean saline. Anything embedded should be left alone and seen the same day. For chemical splash, irrigate for at least fifteen minutes before doing anything else.
