Dry Eye Symptom Self Assessment

A short symptom checklist covering the presentations of dry eye, including watering eyes and fluctuating vision, which most people do not associate with it. It produces an awareness score rather than a diagnosis.

Dry eye presents in ways people do not expect. Watering eyes, vision that clears when you blink, and contact lenses that used to be comfortable are all common presentations.

Self assessment questions

1.Do your eyes feel gritty, sandy or as though something is in them?

2.Do your eyes burn or sting?

3.Do your eyes water for no obvious reason?

Watering is one of the most common presentations of dry eye, not the opposite of it.

4.Does your vision blur and then clear when you blink?

5.Do your eyes feel worse after long periods on a screen?

6.Do you use artificial tears?

7.If you wear contact lenses, has comfort declined over time?

8.Do you take antihistamines, antidepressants, blood pressure medication or diuretics?

All of these reduce tear production. This is one of the most overlooked causes.
