Caring for Your Eyewear
Rinse first, then clean with a microfibre cloth. Never dry clean a dusty lens, because that grinds the dust into the coating. Frames drift with wear, and adjustments are free for as long as you wear them.
Cleaning without scratching
Rinse under lukewarm water first. This is the step people skip and it is the one that matters, because dry wiping a dusty lens grinds that dust across the coating.
Then use a drop of washing up liquid, rub gently with your fingers, rinse and dry with a clean microfibre cloth. Not a shirt, not a tissue, not kitchen paper, all of which are abrasive at the scale a lens coating cares about.
What ruins lenses fastest
- Dry wiping when the lens has dust on it
- Leaving glasses on a car dashboard, where heat can craze coatings and warp frames
- Cleaning with alcohol, ammonia or household glass cleaner, which strip coatings
- Putting glasses down lens first
- Carrying them loose in a bag without a case
Why frames need adjusting
Frames drift out of alignment with normal wear, from being taken off one handed, from being pushed up on the head, and from temperature. A frame that has drifted moves the optical centre away from your pupil, and for progressive lenses that matters a great deal.
Cleaning, repairs and adjustments are free for as long as you wear a frame bought here, and most adjustments take a few minutes. Most people should have theirs checked a few times a year.
The warranties
The WOW Warranty covers unlimited replacement on eyewear bought here. The 120 day redo guarantee covers glasses that were made correctly and still are not right for you, remaking them until they are at no extra cost.
Contact lenses carry a separate 30 day unlimited warranty. Terms are confirmed by the office before purchase.
When to replace rather than repair
Lenses with deep scratches in the visual axis, coatings that have crazed, or frames whose hinges have failed repeatedly. Bring them in and the office will tell you honestly which category yours are in.
