Ortho-K Success and Follow Up
Follow up starts the morning after your first night, continues through the settling period as the correction stabilises, and then runs every six to twelve months to check corneal health, lens condition and, for children, progression against baseline.

Reviews are part of the treatment, not an optional extra.
The fitting gets the lens right. Follow up is what keeps it right, and it is the part patients most often underestimate.
Three things are being watched. First, corneal health, because overnight wear needs the surface checked regularly. Second, lens condition, since rigid lenses degrade slowly and a lens past its best gives a worse result without ever feeling obviously wrong. Third, for children, whether progression has actually slowed, which is only answerable by comparing against a baseline taken at the start.
Reviews are also when small problems get fixed before they become large ones. Slight regression late in the day, a lens that has started to feel different, a change in the corneal map: all are straightforward to address early and much less so if left for a year.

What this does not do
- Follow up cannot be skipped safely. Overnight wear without monitoring is where problems develop unnoticed.
- Lenses do need replacing periodically even with excellent care.
Questions and answers
How often do I need to come in?
Intensively during the first month while the correction settles, then every six to twelve months depending on your age, prescription and how the eyes are responding.
What if my vision is not lasting all day?
Come in. Late day regression is usually a design issue that can be corrected, and it can also indicate a lens that needs replacing. It is not something to live with.
How long do the lenses last?
Rigid lenses typically last a year or more with good care. Condition is assessed at each review and replacement is scheduled before performance drops rather than after.
Do I still need a regular eye exam?
Yes. Ortho-K reviews focus on the lens and the cornea. A comprehensive examination covers retinal health, glaucoma screening and everything else, and both matter.
